A Day of Learning and Joy

Morning Kick-off: Smiles and Introductions
The day began with laughter as more than 40 children arrived, some shy, others bursting with energy. Volunteers welcomed each child by name, giving them colorful name tags and a warm “hello.” Many of these children do not often get the chance to practice English in their daily lives, so even simple greetings became powerful moments of confidence.
Interactive Learning: English Through Play
Rather than textbooks and rote memorization, the lessons centered on games, stories, and creativity. Children played a scavenger hunt where they had to find objects labeled in English around the classroom. In small groups, volunteers read storybooks aloud and encouraged the kids to act out the characters. The younger students loved shouting out animal sounds in English, while older students challenged themselves by writing short dialogues.
Building Confidence: Every Word Counts
One of the highlights was a role-play activity where students practiced ordering food at a “make-believe café.” For many, it was their first time stringing together full English sentences in front of peers. The room filled with cheers as they proudly ordered “a sandwich, please!” or “one juice, thank you!”
Community Spirit and Lasting Impact
Parents from Sham Shui Po stopped by to watch and expressed their gratitude. Many shared how financial challenges make it difficult to afford after-school programs. For them, this Teaching Day was more than a lesson—it was a rare gift of hope and opportunity.
By the end of the day, every child left with new words in their vocabulary, a workbook to take home, and—most importantly—the confidence to keep learning.
Looking Ahead
Our organisation remains committed to making English education accessible to all children in Hong Kong. Days like these remind us that every small effort can create ripples of change.
